Instagram Stories for Your Shop: A 7-Day Plan with Polls, Questions and Behind the Scenes
Many shop owners open Stories every morning with no idea what to post, so they end up sharing the same coffee photo again or reposting an old post. The result: Stories that slide by with no replies, and then posting stops for days. This article gives you a simple seven-day plan, with one clear idea and one Stories tool for each day, plus examples for a café, a perfume shop, an abaya store and a salon. Use it as it is for a week, then adjust it to suit your audience.
Before you start: three rules for Stories
- Stories are for closeness, not ads: people watch Stories to see the place and the people behind it, so go easy on designed promo graphics and share more real moments.
- One Story = one idea: short, readable text and one interactive sticker per frame, no more.
- A short daily sequence beats twenty Stories at once: three to six connected Stories a day are often enough.
Days 1 and 2: start the conversation
Day 1: an easy poll
Open the week with a question people can answer in one tap. A poll breaks the ice and shows you what your audience likes.
- Café: "Hot latte or iced latte in this weather?"
- Perfume shop: "Heavy oud or something light for the office?"
At the end of the day, share the result in a Story: "Iced latte wins 👀 Tomorrow we'll show you how we make it."
Day 2: the question box
Ask a specific question instead of "Ask us anything." For example, an abaya store: "What confuses you most when choosing your abaya size?" People answer specific questions more often, and their answers give you material for the days ahead.
Day 3: behind the scenes
This day is the heart of the plan. Film what happens before the customer sees the finished product:
- Preparing pastries in the morning before the café opens.
- Packing online store orders with a handwritten thank-you card.
- Sterilising salon tools and tidying up before the first appointment.
Add a short line explaining the shot: "6 a.m., croissants coming out of the oven." You don't need perfect lighting, just a steady, clear shot.
Days 4 and 5: answer and teach
Day 4: answer the questions
Go back to the Day 2 questions and answer the best ones, one question per Story. The abaya store, for instance, could reply with a short video showing how to measure length from the shoulder. The person who asked feels heard, and everyone else sees that questions really get read.
Day 5: a useful tip or a quiz
Use the quiz sticker with a question that has a correct answer:
- Perfume shop: "Where should you apply perfume so it lasts longer? Wrist, behind the ear, or on your clothes?"
- Café: "Which coffee origin tastes the most fruity?"
Then explain the answer in two sentences in the next Story.
Day 6: the faces of your shop and your customers
Introduce your team: the barista sharing their favourite drink, or the stylist naming the haircut she loves doing most. And if customers tag you in their Stories, reshare them with a thank-you once you're sure they're happy with it. This day builds more trust than any offer.
Day 7: a friendly invitation to visit or order
After six days of getting closer, you've earned the right to ask. Tie it to what happened during the week: "The iced latte you picked is back with a new twist this weekend," with a location sticker or link. Finish with a countdown sticker if you have a product launch or special date coming. Then save the week's best Stories to Highlights with clear names like "Menu" and "Your Questions."
Mistakes that ruin the plan
- Running a poll and never sharing the result or responding to it.
- Long text in a small font that can't be read in a few seconds.
- Putting text or stickers at the edges of the screen, where app buttons hide them.
- Ignoring replies in your DMs; every Story reply is a chance for a real conversation.
- Copying the exact same plan every week until your audience gets bored.
How do you know the plan worked?
After the week, open your Stories insights and check: which day brought the most replies and messages? Where did people drop out of the sequence? Keep the strong days and change the weak ones. Over time you'll have a plan that's truly your shop's own, and you can link it to your posts with a full month's content plan in one hour.
